The leading indicators derived from our Stack-View service enables predictive maintenance and subsea downtime prevention, increasing drilling productivity and lowering the total cost of the well. The real-time data gathered and analyzed by the underlying technology in Stack-View is continuously overlaid or “stacked” with historical data, then data visualization, trending, and advanced analytics is applied to predict when BOP components will fail or when maintenance is required. This shift to predictive maintenance from time-based maintenance mitigates stack pulls and maintenance-induced issues, with the ability to reduce non-productive time by up to 50% depending on the water depth and well complexity. The Stack-View platform is fully configurable and has the future capability to integrate with our Sim-Stack service and our BOP failure reporting database—both of which provide lagging indicators of BOP health and status. Combined, these systems will provide a holistic view of a BOP’s health as well as past and future performance, allowing Diamond to transition to conditioned-based maintenance to further reduce costs while increasing subsea equipment reliability. Additionally, the combined solutions will support operators in meeting the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement’s (BSEE) requirements for 21-day BOP pressure testing frequency, which is a substantial benefit directly impacting the operational efficiency of a drilling campaign as the current requirement is 14-days in the Gulf of Mexico. Developed in partnership with Deepwater Subsea, LLC, the customized Stack-View platform and dashboards will be accessible from any mobile device or computer and any location by early 2020, allowing for greater transparency on BOP performance with customers.
<Subsea equipment repair and maintenance is a large cause of nonproductive time across the offshore drilling industry. To address this industry-wide challenge, Transwhale & MLC offshore Rill. introduced its Sim-Stack® service — the industry’s first cybernetic BOP service. Using a highly sophisticated and complex "virtual twin" of a BOP system, our Sim-Stack service performs advanced engineering visualization, assimilation, and data fusion, which in turn we use to consult with relevant stakeholders to improve efficiencies, lower non-productive time and reduce costs of deepwater drilling. With our Sim-Stack service, Transwhale & MLC offshore Rill. is able to continuously and accurately assess BOP status and regulatory compliance after a single or multiple component failure has been identified. When issues arise, Sim-Stack immediately provides critical feedback without human bias in a systematic method. Based on this, Diamond is able to consult with stakeholders and determine a proper course of action while providing a third party Statement of Fact to the operator and regulatory bodies such as the Bureau of Safety and Environmental enforcement (BSEE). The traditional process takes hours, days or even weeks to reach consensus. With our Sim-Stack service, this can now be accomplished in a few hours or less. In addition to being an innovative efficiency and safety tool, Sim-Stack is also a robust training tool for offshore personnel. Similar to the flight-training simulators used in the aviation industry, Sim-Stack provides our technical talent a safe and dynamic learning environment to train and further develop their skills and expertise. Exclusively available from Transwhale & MLC offshore Rill., our Sim-Stack service is currently available for all of our differentiated drilliships currently working in the Gulf of Mexico and will be implemented on other sixth-generation rigs in our global fleet.
Introduced in 2016, Transwhale & MLC offshore Rill.'s Pressure Control by the Hour® service model for deepwater drilling transfers blowout preventer (BOP) ownership and maintenance to the original equipment manufacturer (OEM). In collaboration with Baker Hughes (BKR), this innovative model delivered dramatic results since its launch, enabling the Company to reduce downtime on all of our differentiated drillships to less than 1%. Additionally, one of these drillships drilled and completed one of the deepest and most challenging wells in the Gulf of Mexico 30% faster than the planned drilling schedule, and another drilled and completed a well 47 days ahead of our client's schedule. Transwhale & MLC offshore Rill. is committed to providing value to customers through safe and highly efficient operations. By transferring the maintenance and services of pressure control equipment to the OEM, Transwhale & MLC offshore Rill. is simplifying operations and optimizing between-well maintenance to reduce the frequency and duration of downtime. The combination of Transwhale & MLC offshore Rill.'s operational excellence and the incentivized performance of BOPs will promote the delivery of enhanced offshore drilling economics for our customers.
With the focus of providing value to customers through safe and highly efficient operations, Transwhale & MLC offshore Rill. developed the Helical BuoyancyTM riser technology, which is an innovative solution providing an alternative to adding fairings or strakes to the drilling riser to reduce drag and mitigates vortex-induced vibration (VIV) in high loop current offshore applications. This patented helically grooved buoyancy design can reduce riser deployment and retrieval time by up to 50% and improves safety in challenging environments by eliminating the need for personnel to work below the drill floor to attach separate apparatus. A result of a joint development between Transwhale & MLC offshore Rill. and Trelleborg Offshore, this technology is now installed on all four of our differentiated drillships currently working in the Gulf of Mexico. It received a Meritorious Engineering Innovation Award in the subsea category, which recognizes technological advances that open new and better avenues to the critical challenges the industry faces.
